Our mountain hut - Aualm

You can drive right up to the Aualm and keen walkers can head on up to the Paarsee Lakes, to the Schiedalm, Schernbergalm and the Höllwand. The hike from the mountain station of the Panorama cable car via the Kreuzkogel, Arltörl and Schuhflicker to our mountain hut is also very popular.

Scenic location in the heart
of the Grossarl Valley walking area

As all farms in Grossarl, we too have an alpine pasture area with a mountain inn belonging to our organic farm. The Aualm, newly-built from local wood with a swiss pine snug, lies at an atltitude of 1.795 m beneath the Schuhflicker mountain and offers a fantastic view of the Grossarl Valley and the surrounding mountains. Walk over our blooming alpine meadows with your eyes wide open and your will see rare, protected species of orchids and gentians,

Our own produce straight from the alpine pasture

Our cows, horses and pigs spend the summer from beginning of June to end of September up on the alpine pasturelands and graze in the alpine meadows. The cows provide us with precious milk which we lovingly make into alpine butter, hard, soft and sour cream cheese plus a variety of quark spreads. Let our dairywoman spoil you with a hearty, tasty snack. A homemade schnaps rounds off you meal and ensures a pleasurable feeling of well-being. You can also purchse our homemade produce such as alpine butter, cheese, quark, jam and schnaps.

Alpine Adventure Day for the whole family

Once a week guests head up to our Aualm for our Alpine Adventure Day. Along a gentle walk animals and plants which live and thrive at this altitude are examined closely. Back at the mountain hut everyone can have a go at making butter. Afterwards there's a hearty snack and our younger guests can romp around the adventure playground.

Ask us as many questions as you like. We'll do our best to explain everything. For example, how much grass must a cow eat to produce 1 litre of milk? Do pigs produce milk too? How do I behave correctly around horses? What do the chamois, marmots and eagles do in the winter?

Wandern im Großarltal

Our farm Biobauernhof AUBAUER is member of "farmholidays in Austria". This organisation makes controlls on the quality of the farms. This is measured by flowers, like the stars in hotels. The farms with the highest quality and comfort get 4 flowers - and we got them. We are really proud of it!
